The History of the Food and Clothing Ministry (FCM)
The FCM was founded by Bishop Abe Randall, Pastor Emeritus of Saint Matthews Freewill Baptist Church.
The FCM was organized by Sister Christine Forbes on September 11, 2001. Sister Forbes has since passed on.
Bishop Randall chose six (6) people to implement the FCM:
Sister Christine Forbes, Chairperson
Sister Dorothy Dixon Co-Chair
Sister Jestean Mellerson, Helper
Deacon Grady Dixon, Lead Driver
Deacon Hugh Huster Mellerson, Assistant Driver
Deacon George King, Assistant Driver
GOD has blessed the FCM through the years, causing a need for more helpers. To name a few: Sister Carrenda Hilton, Sister Janie McKnight, Sister Aquillia Carter and Brother Prince McKnight. Mother Dorothy Dixon became Chairperson after Sister Christine Forbes homegoing and retired in 2020. The ministry was closed due to Covid19 in 2019. The ministry was revamped in 2023 with Sister Yesmin Turner becoming the Chairperson. Those who joined are: Deaconess Jestine Souter, Sister Shirley Tarpley, Mother Betty Word, Sister Lakeisha Wright, Sister Nevaeh Williams, Deaconess Shirley Brinson & Brother Anthony Randle. SMFWBC remodeled the building in 2022-23 and reopened June 20, 2023 from Noon to 3:00 p.m.
The FM prepare bags and boxes once a week and as needed if possible. Also clothing if we have on hand. No one is turned away. You can donate clothing to FM anytime. All clothing benefit those in need.
